Opportunity Rising Scholarship Applications Are Now Open

DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas created the  Opportunity Rising Foundation, an education-focused nonprofit organization that provides students living in DHA’s Public Housing or who participate in DHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program access to resources and experiences that empower them to pursue higher education and lifelong learning. Opportunity Rising invests in education and learning, so the families we serve can access the resources they need to pursue better careers and improve their quality of life.

The Opportunity Rising Scholarship Award application window is now open for 2022 high school graduates. The scholarships are designed for graduating high school seniors who reside in DHA’s Public Housing or participate in DHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Eligibility requirements are:

• Student must reside in one of DHA’s Housing Programs
• Becoming a graduate with a high school diploma or GED of the current year
• Enrolling in an institution of higher learning for the Fall Semester of the upcoming school year
• Must complete the application in its entirety

To apply for this scholarship, students submit the following:

• Completed scholarship packet
• Email one recommendation letter (letters can be from an employer, community representative, or school official)
• Email a copy of GPA, SAT, and ACT Scores or Transcript 
• Email a photograph (headshot only)
• Complete the “Let’s Talk About You” section

The theme for this year’s essay submission is “What Is Hope? When Have You Felt Hopeless? When Have You Felt Hopeful?” In the essay, please include answers to the following questions in your own words: How did you come up with the definition of Hope? What was the experience that made you feel Hopeless? What was the experience that made you feel Hopeful?

Each essay will be judged on:

• Quality of content
• Ability to captivate the reader
• Originality
• Correct grammar usage (punctuation and spelling)
• Overall presentation

The deadline for the Opportunity Rising Scholarship Award is Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:59 pm.
