Christy Mumphrey moved to a high opportunity area & her family has flourished

One of Ms. Mumphrey’s children was having issues at school and with friends that were starting to get serious, so she knew she needed to change their environment. Her DHA case worker helped her learn about high opportunity areas and she was able to find a great single-family home near great schools and job opportunities.

While the initial transition to this new neighborhood was a challenging adjustment, her family is now flourishing. Ms. Mumphrey works close to home at one of the largest hospitals in DFW, and her children are on the honor roll and getting straight A’s. One of her younger children that has behavioral challenges receives excellent attention and support from their school – something she did not have access to in their old neighborhood.

With her family settled in their new community, she is working hard and focused on her mission: finish school to earn her bachelor’s degree in healthcare management so she can become a breast-feeding specialist and have her own doula business. She is also working on improving her credit score so that she can become a homeowner.

“I really appreciate my DHA FSS caseworker’s support,” says Ms. Mumphrey. “I am inspired by her encouragement and am constantly pushing myself to do more, accomplish more. Because of my FSS Plan and my caseworker’s support, I really feel like my goals are achievable.”
