A letter from our Board of Commissioners

We Applaud DHA’s COVID-19 Response

Dear DHA Team –

On behalf of the Board of Commissioners, I would like to thank you for the extra efforts you have invested during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure we were able to continue supporting DHA families with care.

It is no small feat to serve 55,000+ people with affordable housing across North Texas every day. It’s an even greater challenge to do so during an international health crisis.

You provided clear, consistent guidance to public housing residents, Housing Choice Voucher families, landlords and staff throughout the pandemic and adopted critical health and safety measures swiftly.

The investments we have made in technology over the past two years enabled the team to swiftly transition to working remotely so that we could continue operations with minimal disruption. Monthly housing assistance payments continued to be made on schedule. DHA accommodated those clients who needed additional help with their rent payments ensuring that landlords received their full payments monthly, helping those we serve avoid concern about eviction, and maintained a positive experience for our landlord partners.

To the team members assigned to make personal outreach to Housing Choice Voucher families to support their housing searches – we truly appreciate you going the extra mile. Directly connecting with clients who need help with their housing search to assist them navigate new challenges presented by quarantine enabled families to find housing and/or appropriately put a hold on their voucher so that they can resume their search when it’s safer.

Our maintenance team quickly adopted COVID-19 safety precautions to ensure we were able to respond to our families’ emergency maintenance needs while protecting your teammates. You also incorporated virtual housing inspections into your process so that families who are able to secure housing during this time can avoid delays moving-in and to help reduce the risk of them losing their housing options.

We are also proud of the work the team has done supporting our public housing residents with wellness outreach to identify needs for essentials like groceries, medicine, and internet access for students to continue their studies. You connected with thousands of families and helped so many gain access to the resources they need to weather quarantine safely.

We are proud of the work you’ve done and applaud these and all of the work performed to support DHA families during these challenging months.

Let’s build upon these best practices and continue to serve our clients with care.

With high regards,
